Thank a Veteran, Donate to the Honor Flights
The National Honor Flight Network is an organization that was created in 2005 to honor our veterans from WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The organization provides free trips to veterans to visit Washington D.C. to visit memorials built to honor those who served.
For many veterans who participate, the honor flight is the Welcome Home experience that they never got when returning home from their service and is a memorable, life-changing journey. Even years following their trip, veterans have said the experience boosted their self-esteem and pride in their service to our country.
Some veterans have the opportunity to reconnect with old friends they served with, while others get to experience this honor with a loved one who volunteered as their guardian for the trip. Regardless of who it is, all veterans deserve the chance to enjoy a unique day dedicated to them. “When our tours in Vietnam ended, we were sent home alone. Not with our Units and the guys we fought with,” says Ray Eich, a NuMark Credit Union board member and military veteran. “Honor Flight Chicago brings home as a group with honor, respect, and dignity that we never got.”
If you or a loved one are a veteran and would like to participate in an Honor Flight, you can find your closest Honor Flight Hub here. The trips are provided at no cost to the participants and is intended to be a thank you for their service, sacrifice and bravery. Honor Flight Chicago, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, makes all of this possible through generous support from donors and volunteers.
This program is supported only by donations from community members across America and isn’t federally funded. So, to help in the mission of Honor Flight Chicago and Honor Flight Quad Cities for Lee County, NuMark Credit Union will be raising donations from now until May 31st and will match the first $1,500 in donations for each Honor Flight hub. You can make your donation in the lobby of your nearest location, which you can find at www.numarkcu.org, to help keep this amazing program going and all veterans can receive the thank you that they so deserve.
To make a donation directly online, visit Honor Flight Chicago – Flying America’s War Heroes.
