NuMark Credit Union’s 2024 Annual Report

Lloyd M. Fredendall | President & CEO

As I sit and write my very last President’s report, I can’t help but look back on the past 33+ years and think about all that we have accomplished. It is truly amazing, and a credit to the many excellent NuMark team members who have consistently put our members first. On a personal note, it has been a true pleasure working to serve your financial needs, and while I have mixed emotions leaving a career that I have loved so much, I take great comfort in knowing that the Credit Union is in an outstanding position both financially and operationally. Future President’s reports will be delivered by Michelle Balog, who took over the helm of NuMark effective March 31, 2025. I have no doubt that she’ll do an awesome job growing NuMark and maintaining the member-oriented focus that has brought us such continued success over the years.

Over the course of 2024, member deposit balances grew by $41.3M (6.2%), and our loan portfolio increased by $28.7M (4.92%), both well in excess of our peers. As a result, our total assets expanded to $850,364,152 on an equity capital position of $86,078,091. This equates to a 10.21% capital to asset ratio, well above the 7% ratio necessary to maintain the regulatory designation of “well capitalized.” Our net income and capital position continue to place at the highest level compared to our peers.

As we’ve addressed in previous letters, one of the many reasons we are very growth oriented is that a larger and continually growing balance sheet provides financial flexibility to invest in the people and technology necessary to support our constant efforts to better serve your financial needs. For 2025, our organizational focus remains on attracting and retaining the very best people, enhancing our processes with an emphasis on efficiency, and employing the very best technology to continually improve our ability to serve members.

Understanding that our people are by far our greatest asset in delivering superior member service, career development, and employee satisfaction remains a key focus for us. To keep pace with our rapid growth we continue to welcome new faces to the NuMark Team, so we’re retaining a heavy focus on expanded training. Our Employee Resource Groups also allow staff to get involved in areas of interest. These voluntary groups are employee-led with an eye towards leadership development; mentorship; and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Looking to the future, our teams are also building programs that will help us better serve new and emerging markets. The sky really is the limit for anyone who wants to grow their career at NuMark.

We really do have something for everyone from affordable mortgages, auto, personal and business loans; to free checking accounts, competitive-rate CDs, high yield checking accounts and business services.

So, let’s build a fantastic future together. Stop in and see us or visit us at numarkcu.org, and let’s talk about your plans. Thank you for your support of NuMark!

Chairman’s Report

Cliff Struthers | Board Chairman

We’re happy to report that 2024 was another great year for NuMark! Between new technology to improve member experience, like the ability to open accounts online, and supporting our surrounding community members, last year was another one dedicated to the “people helping people” mantra that is the foundation of the credit union movement. In addition, 2024 marked a major achievement for NuMark when we celebrated our 70th anniversary of serving our members and surrounding communities on August 23rd.

We are grateful that you continue to choose NuMark for all your financial needs and appreciate your continued support, which allows us to give back to our members and community.

Last year, NuMark employees spent over 1,250 hours volunteering for our communities in a variety of ways, including participating in CU Kind Day on October 14th. For CU Kind Day, NuMark split into three teams to lend a hand to the Bridge Teen Center, St. Patrick’s Food Pantry in Amboy, and DuPage Pads. Whether it was packing meals for community members in need, or helping to provide holiday gifts for families, our staff members are always excited to help in any way they can.

In addition to CU Kind Day, we continued our partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB), participating in Mobile Food Market events where we provided groceries and meals for community members, and raising money to help in their mission. Since the beginning of our partnership with NIFB, we’ve raised over $59,000 to go towards supporting families in need, thanks to the generosity of staff and members.

Last year was also another year dedicated to supporting veterans and showing our appreciation for their years of service to our country. Once again, we raised money for Honor Flight Chicago and Honor Flight Quad Cities to provide veterans across the country the opportunity to visit Washington D.C. to see the memorials of fallen soldiers and other national monuments.

In addition to the Honor Flight Network, we also continued our support of Wreaths Across America (WAA), participating in Flags in Day at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, and raising money to sponsor 292 wreaths for National Wreaths Across America Day. Throughout our 14 years supporting WAA, we’ve raised a total of $49,351 to sponsor 4,879 wreaths.

While we had a wonderful year supporting our communities and celebrating 70 years of stellar service, we also had the bittersweet announcement in October of Lloyd Fredendall’s retirement, whose official last day was March 31st, 2025. We’re immensely grateful for Lloyd’s many years of wonderful leadership and wish him all the best. We’d also like to congratulate Michelle Balog on taking over the role of President and CEO and are looking forward to seeing NuMark continue to grow under her leadership. Thank you again for your continued support and being part of our NuMark family.
