NuMark Credit Union’s 2023 Annual Report

Lloyd M. Fredendall | President & CEO

It never ceases to amaze me what an awesome team of people can accomplish. Working together, the NuMark Team succeeded in evaluating, negotiating, purchasing, and integrating the former Pioneer State Bank into NuMark in a very tight time window. This was a major undertaking, and I am pleased to report we’re already realizing numerous benefits from those efforts.

Over the course of 2023, NuMark added roughly 4,000 new members, member deposit balances grew by $117,478,420 (21.4%), and our loan portfolio increased by $106,418,036 (22.3%). Based on those results, our total assets expanded to $765,603,351 on an equity capital position of $80,020,271. We’re at a 10.45% capital to asset ratio, signifying us as a very financially sound operation. Based on the information provided to us by our national trade association, our success has allowed us to provide $12.8 million in direct financial benefits to our 59,114 members, equating to around $457 per member household.

One of the many reasons we’re growth focused is because we are member-centric. A larger, continually growing balance sheet provides the financial flexibility to invest in the equipment and technology necessary to better serve your financial needs now and in the future. For 2024, our organizational focus is on our People, Processes, and Technology.

Recognizing the difficulty many have experienced reaching us by telephone, we’ve increased staffing at our contact centers, and are very close to launching an improved, technology-driven system. The system will manage phone calls and online chat volume, provide quick answers for routine questions, and include a new digital assistant for our website. We’re also preparing to launch an online account opening platform, allowing you and anyone eligible to join NuMark to open new accounts and fund them online!

Understanding that our people are our greatest asset in delivering superior member service, career development and employee satisfaction remains a key focus. To keep pace with our rapid growth, we continue to add new faces to the NuMark Team, and are working hard to bring everyone up to speed through expanded training. Our employee-led resource groups allow employees to get involved in areas of interest, with an eye towards leadership development, mentorship, and fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. The sky is the limit for anyone who wants to grow a career at NuMark.

Our talented team continues to assess and develop operational efficiencies, improved communications, enhanced technologies, and competitive pricing on our products and services. Our teams are also building programs that will help us better serve new and emerging markets. We really do have something for everyone from affordable mortgages, auto, personal and business loans, to free checking accounts that pay you back, competitive-rate CDs, high yielding checking accounts and business services. Let’s build a fantastic future together. Stop in and see us or visit us at numarkcu.org, and let’s talk about your plans.

Chairman’s Report

Cliff Struthers | Board Chairman

This past year has truly been one of evolution and progression following our merger with Pioneer State Bank. Following our Grand Opening event in Earlville, we look forward to continuing to build relationships with members who joined us from the merger and helping them to do more with their money. Despite the challenges that come with a task like a merger, NuMark continued to support old and new members through several tech advancements to streamline member experience.

Thank you for choosing NuMark for your financial needs. Please continue to tell your friends and family about our organization so we can continue to give back to our members and community. Sticking to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people”, NuMark also focused on our commitment to community involvement. We maintained our relationship with the communities we serve through a variety of fundraising and community service events.

Throughout 2023, our staff donated 275 community service hours, and the organization donated over $14,000 to local charities. The donations include $2,644 to Honor Flight Chicago, to honor veterans for their service, and $4,192 to sponsor 493 wreaths at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery through Wreaths Across America – bringing our thirteen-year total to $42,806 sponsoring 4,444 wreaths.

Our dedication to veterans also included our participation in the Flags In Day, where our staff, other volunteers from our community and WJOL placed 70,000 American flags at the gravesites and the Columbarium wall at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery to honor our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day.

We’re also proud to announce that, to date, we’ve donated over $49,000 to the Northern Illinois Food Bank (NILFB), providing over $390,000 in groceries to our neighbors in need. In addition to our monetary donations, NuMark participated in NILFB’s mobile food truck events, as well as the Aurora Pride Parade, the Paw Paw Memorial Day Parade, and the Mexican Independence Day parade.

In addition to our work with NILFB and participation in local parades, we held several Shred Day events at our branches and Free Member Seminars that covered a variety of financial topics to help attendees learn how to do more with their money. We also continued our partnership with WJOL’s Money Talks Radio Show to help provide financial education to listeners in the area.

NuMark remains dedicated to the “people helping people” philosophy through our constant commitment to community outreach and providing the best financial products and services possible. Thank you again for your continued support and being part of the NuMark family.
