NuMark Volunteers Spread Awareness for National Bullying Prevention Month

Credit Union Kind Day Volunteers

October is National Bullying Prevention Month where people around the world unite to draw awareness. CU Kind Day, which was launched by the Illinois Credit Union League, included over 60 Illinois credit unions who dedicated the day to spreading kindness and helping others. For NuMark’s Credit Union Kind Day initiative, we drew awareness with the Orland Park based business, the Bridge Teen Center. The center has worked diligently to keep the youth engaged in meaningful activities during their free time.

For our “Drive Out Bullying” campaign, NuMark committed to volunteering in the Bridge Thrift Store. Volunteers sorted, stocked and prepared merchandise for sale. Did you know that two hours of volunteer time from a group of 6 can generate enough revenue to provide unlimited access to their after school center for 3 to 6 months? By the end of event, NuMark sorted 190 bags of clothes, which will give 13 students unlimited access to the Center for 6 months! Overall more than 24,000 credit union volunteers made a difference in 20,000 individual’s lives.

NuMark Credit Union Member Service Specialist, Teresa Conklin, states, “I really enjoyed volunteering in the Bridge Thrift Store and giving back. I was surprised at how clean and organized the Bridge Teen Center was. I like that they are training the kids with the trades and opening their eyes to other concepts because college is not for everyone. I love that the kids can be created and express themselves with art. I wish they had something like this when I was growing up. Looking forward to going back and doing it again.”

The Bridge Teen Center is a nationally-recognized non-profit community center that was designed around the needs and interests of teens in the suburbs. The Bridge provides free holistically-designed afterschool programming and a safe environment for Friday night entertainment. Monthly programs that help parents navigate through the teenage years are also offered. To date, over 8,000+ unique students from 128 different communities have been served by The Bridge. The Bridge is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is funded by individuals, businesses, and foundations in the community.
