The credit union slogan is “people helping people” and that’s exactly what happened after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma hit Texas and Florida. NuMark Credit Union challenged its member to come together and donate at least $2,500 because they would match the first $2,500 donated. In true credit union fashion, people came together and donated. In total, NuMark Credit Union collected $7,250 for hurricane relief.
One generous donation came from one of NuMark Credit Union’s Select Employer Group (SEG) ODM Tool and Manufacturing Co., Inc. located in McCook, Illinois. The employees of ODM were able to donate $2,000 towards NuMark’s collection. “We were already doing a collection to send to relief organizations, however when I saw the email from NuMark stating they were going to match donations, we decided to send a portion of our employee collection to NuMark,” said Carl (Chip) Michaelsen, President of ODM Tool and Manufacturing Co., Inc.
In addition to the money from ODM Tool and Manufacturing Co., Inc., NuMark Credit Union members and employees were able to raise $2,750 through donations collected in branch lobbies, over the phone and through NuMark Credit Union employee jean days. “We are very thankful for the generous donations from ODM Tool and Manufacturing Co., Inc., our members and our staff,” said Mack Story, NuMark Credit Union Branch Manager. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those whose lives have been affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.”
NuMark Credit Union donated $7,250 for hurricane relief to CUAid.coop. Through CUAid.coop, the National Credit Union Foundation offers the only national online disaster relief fundraising center for credit unions. This fund is dedicated to helping credit unions, their employees and volunteers recover from major disasters such as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
