NuMark Credit Union (NuMark) is proud to announce that its very own Laurie Veasy, Vice President of Lending, recently received recognition at the MLK Brunch & Celebration event for her efforts in the community. The event was a collaboration between the Joliet chapters of the African American Business Association (AABA), the National Hook-Up of Black Women (NHBW), and the NAACP. It was held at the D’Amore Banquet Hall in Joliet, IL on Saturday, January 18 with the theme “After the Dream; Mobilizing Unfinished Business.”

Veasy was given the honor of being one of only five community members to receive the Community Collaborator & Activist Award. She was given this award due to her efforts to support her community both financially, and through volunteering her time at multiple organizations. Veasy’s support ranges from financial education, to helping eradicate hunger in our communities, fighting inequality, and more.

“It’s no surprise that Laurie was chosen as the recipient of the Community Collaboration and Activist award,” said Michelle Balog, President & General Counsel at NuMark. “Laurie dedicates countless hours to volunteering at community events and supporting initiatives that promote equity, financial education and well-being. Her commitment to giving back inspires all of those around her. She’s an outstanding member of the NuMark team that goes above and beyond to make a positive impact for our members, employees and the community.”

Veasy has been a part of NuMark since 2018 and has made a major positive impact on the credit union. She’s done an incredible job not only showing her expertise in her field but has always brought a positive outlook to all of her coworkers. Her passion is for the NuMark mission, which is to provide community members with top notch financial products and services so they can turn their dreams into reality.

Outside of work, Veasy serves on the Board of Directors for the AABA on the Membership and Finance Committees, as well as the Ways and Means and Budgeting Committees of the NHBW. Her collaboration with others to achieve a common goal and address community challenges and consistent dedication to volunteering within the community is what made her stand out amongst her peers and earned her the honor of this award.

“My mom was also very active in her community, so I guess you can say I got it from her,” said Veasy about her recognition and passion for community service. “She was an election judge, and precinct captain for so many years, always listening and trying to make a difference. It’s an incredible blessing to be recognized for something that you really have a passion for. It means that people see that the things I’m doing are making a difference.”

As an employee of a credit union, it’s important to live with the mentality of “people helping people,” which Veasy has had no trouble doing. She and her coworkers at NuMark are proud to provide members with the tools necessary to enrich their financial lives. They offer a range of products and services, along with expert staff, so they can help people do more with their money.
