M&M Budgeting is a fun, interactive financial literacy activity designed to teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders budgeting basics using M&M candy.
M&M Budgeting is a fun, interactive financial literacy activity designed to teach 6th, 7th and 8th graders budgeting basics using M&M candy.
All students receive a bag of M&Ms and will use that as their M&M paycheck. Students separate and organize their M&Ms by color. Each color represents a different budget item from which students can spend their money.
Once students have their budget completed, they will visit merchants to purchase clothing, munchies, electronics, entertainment, gifts and other wants and needs.
The M&M Budgeting activity takes approximately 1.5 hours depending on the number of students participating. Parts of this exercise can carry over into a Math class for further learning.
Yes, students can eat their M&Ms once they count and record their M&Ms. If students eat their M&Ms too soon, their paycheck value decreases.
