Q: What is Card Controls?

Card Controls is a FREE service which allows you complete versatility and control over your debit card transactions.  Turn your card ON or OFF, block certain types of merchants, certain types of transactions and even set a spending limits.

Q: How do I get started using Card Controls for my Debit Card?

Log into your NuMark Credit Union account online or with your mobile app.  Locate Card Controls under Additional Services for online, or from Menu on mobile app and then accept the Terms and Conditions. If you do not have Online or Mobile Banking account, you will need to do that before enabling Card Controls.  Call us at 815-729-3211 to get started.

Q: How do I set my notifications?

The Alerts and Control Preference screen allows you to set your preferences for alert delivery. Turn the alerts ON and OFF to see the phone number and email address where alert notifications are delivered. Keep in mind the phone number and email addresses are pulled directly from your alert settings in Online Banking.

Q: Is there a fee to use Card Controls?

No, this service is FREE.  Please note that if you choose to receive text alerts through Card Controls, your carrier’s messaging and data rates may apply.

Q: How do I turn my card OFF and then back ON?

From the main screen in Card Controls, tap on the toggle switch to turn your Debit Card ON or OFF.

Q: How quickly does the ON/OFF status (or other limits) on my card take effect?

Card Controls changes are effective immediately, so you have complete control of your card.

Q: What do I do if I misplaced or lost my card?

If you have simply misplaced your debit card, the OFF feature allows you to temporarily stop any transaction on your card.  When you find your debit card just log back in and turn it back ON, and your card will be ready to make purchases again. If you can’t find your debit card, contact the branch at 815-729-3211 or after hours at 888-918-7868 and report your card lost/stolen to receive a new debit card.

Q: Can I manage Card Controls on more than one Debit Card?

Yes, on the main screen in Card Controls, select the Debit Card from a list of cards on your NuMark Credit Union account.

Q: If a debit card is blocked, is every transaction blocked?

All ONE-TIME transactions are blocked when you set your card to OFF.  However, recurring payments will continue to process normally.

Q: If I turn my Debit Card OFF, will my recurring transactions be blocked?

No, your recurring transactions will not be blocked.  They will continue to be processed even when your card is turned OFF.

Q: How do I customize my Debit Card alerts and specify alert types?

Tap on Alerts and Controls Preferences and set your preferences by Merchant Type, Transaction Type and Spend Limits.  You may also restrict your card from International use in Location Type.

  • All Transactions sends an alert for every transaction processed
  • Blocked Transactions only sends an alert if a transaction is blocked. If no transactions are blocked no alerts will be sent
  • Preferred Transactions allows selection of sub categories of what alert to receive

Q: Can I block only certain types or merchants?

Yes, tap on Alerts and Controls Preferences and you can select blocks for specific spending categories such as Personal Care, Household, Restaurants, Travel, Entertainment, Age Restricted Department Stores, Gas Stations and Groceries.

Q: Can I receive alerts for specific types of transactions at specific merchants?

Yes, if you have your Send Alerts setting set to Preferred Transactions, you will be able to block and unblock specific merchant types.

Q: Can I block only certain types of transactions?

Yes, using the Transaction Type tab within the Alerts and Controls Preferences window, you can set blocks for specific types of transactions such as ATM, In-Store, Online, Mail/Phone order and Others.

Q: Can I set spending limits?

Yes, in the Alerts and Controls Preferences window, you can toggle the block ON and OFF and set your own customized limit.  All transactions outside of the set threshold will be blocked.

Q: Where do I specify whether to receive alerts by email, text or both?

The communication preferences associated with your NuMark Credit Union account apply to your Debit Card. To set your preferences, log in to your online or mobile account.
• From your online account, choose My Settings to review your contact information and security preferences
• From your mobile app, on the Menu, select More, choose Settings. Go to My Settings to set your security options

Q: Can I use Card Controls to notify NuMark Credit Union about my travel plans?

No, travel notifications cannot be submitted via Card Controls at this time.  Please contact us 815-729-3211 before you travel so your Debit Card is not flagged as fraud.

Q: How do I turn OFF Debit Card alerts?

In Card Controls, turn OFF each alert in the individual menus for Merchant Type, Transaction Type, Spend Limits and Location Type.

Q: Can I register a credit card for this service?

No, not through Card Controls.  To add your NuMark credit card, access www.myaccountaccess.com and select Services for options.
