Fraud activity often increases during holiday weekends, as scammers take advantage of closures and distractions. We encourage you to remain alert and keep the following tips in mind:
🔍 Inspect before you use: Before inserting your card, gently check (jiggle or wiggle) the card reader for anything loose or unusual. Skimmers can be placed on ATMs, gas pumps, and payment devices.
💲Choose safer payment options: Whenever possible, select “Credit” or bypass entering your PIN. This helps prevent access to your cash if your card is compromised. Even better, use tap-to-pay or your digital wallet for added security.
⛽ Be cautious at gas stations: Paying inside is typically safer but always stay aware of your surroundings. If you use the pump, watch for suspicious activity or individuals nearby.
🤔 Trust your instincts: If something doesn’t feel right, don’t use the terminal. Carrying a small amount of cash can be helpful as a backup.
📸 Limit what you share online: Avoid posting travel or holiday plans in real time. Fraudsters often look for signs that homes may be unoccupied.
While legitimate NuMark representatives may call during or after-hours including holidays, they will NEVER ask for your CVV, Social Security Number, a one-time password, card expiration date, or your digital banking credentials. If confidential information is ever needed, we will always ask you to call us back at our published phone number.
When faced with unexpected or high‑pressure situations, remember to STOP – THINK – VERIFY by using the 10/2 Rule: take a 10‑minute pause and consult two trusted people. This simple habit helps you spot red flags tied to surprise financial claims, unsolicited requests, or too‑good‑to‑be‑true offers giving you the space to make safe, informed decisions.
