On Friday, July 25th, members of the NuMark team joined a group of other employees of Illinois credit unions to take a tour of Ann & Robert H Lurie Children’s Hospital (Lurie’s) in Chicago with the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals). This opportunity was part of the Illinois Credit Union League’s (ICUL) celebration of #ILoveMyCreditUnion Day, where the ICUL also donated $5,000 to the hospital.
Founded over 40 years ago, CMN Hospitals is dedicated to changing children’s healthcare for the better. To date, the program has donated over $9 billion to the 170 children’s hospitals across the country that are part of the network. Through a variety of fundraising efforts like local community events, partnerships with local businesses and more, CMN Hospitals has been able to help fund innovative research, financial assistance, services to help ease the anxieties of children and their families during long stays, and so much more.
Our team had the opportunity to tour Lurie’s, one of three CMN Hospitals in Illinois, to see all the ways they work to make their patients’ stays as comfortable as possible. Lurie’s relocated to the current, revamped location in downtown Chicago on the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s campus in 2019, after its 130-year residency in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Our team got to see a variety of features to make hospital visits a more welcoming environment for children and their families, such as the Coral Garden and Aquarium on the second floor, the Crown Sky Garden and Café on the 11th floor, a specialized recreation of a firetruck cab in partnership with the Chicago Fire Department on the 12th floor that children of any age and ability can sit in, and more.
As a credit union, community outreach and support is one of the cornerstones of NuMark’s mission. We take pride in helping those in need through a variety of ways, and that’s why NuMark chose to donate an additional $1,000 to Lurie’s, to help in their efforts to get patients the treatment they need while still fostering a warm and welcoming environment for their stay, no matter how long it is.
