NuMark Credit Union Donates $1,100 to the Crisis Center for South Suburbia

NuMark CU celebrates International Womens Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated each year on March 8th. It is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women all over the world while simultaneously promoting unity and gender equality.

NuMark Credit Union chose this day to help support women and families and to raise awareness about domestic abuse. Did you know that anyone could be a victim of abuse? Particularly, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men are affected.

Abuse is a topic that is difficult for many to discuss. No form of abuse is acceptable, whether mental, physical or emotional. Until the silence is shattered, it may continue to be an issue. NuMark Credit Union chose to celebrate International Women’s Day and raise awareness of domestic violence by donating to the Crisis Center for South Suburbia and by wearing pink attire in all branches. The credit union matched staff donations and together have raised over $1,000 for the Crisis Center.

Special Events and Engagement Manager, Lisa Molloy was happy to tell us her thoughts about the Crisis Center and their work in the community. “I have never been more moved and motivated by an organization than I have since starting at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia. After being educated on how prevalent domestic violence is across all socio-economic status, sexual orientations, and different races and cultures, it really hits home. This kind of abuse is happening all around us every day–right in our own neighborhoods. The statistics are quite literally, staggering.”

The decision to support the Crisis Center for NuMark’s IWD celebration was easy. The Crisis Center combats mistreatment and promotes gender equality by making it their mission to help both women and men who are victims of domestic violence.

Lisa Molloy also states, “I am so proud to be part of the Crisis Center team. We are able to help in so many ways and provide programs and support all along a victim’s journey of recovery. But we couldn’t do any of this without our community and our corporate partners. We are so fortunate to have people from all over the area step up to help volunteer, contribute financially, and spread awareness. They are our true champions!”

NuMark Credit Union is pleased to be able to help those who are victims of abuse. They would like thank their staff and members for their support and they look forward to continuing their support of the Crisis Center for South Suburbia.

The 2020 campaign theme for International Women’s Day focused on promoting collective individualism and gender equality. Showing solidarity is as easy as using the hashtag #EachforEqual on social media. IWD is a one-day celebration of the accomplishments of women, but the campaign runs all year long. International Women’s Day has occurred for over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911. Today, IWD is celebrated all over the world.
