Our NuMark branches will be CLOSED on Monday, February 17th in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, February 18th.
In the spirit of giving, NuMark Credit Union (NuMark), a financial institution serving the Southwest Suburbs of Chicago and Northeast Indiana, participated in a variety of programs to help support its community members. NuMark’s annual participation in community outreach around the holidays is a testament to its dedication to bettering the lives of those living in the surrounding community.
This year, donations for Toys for Tots were collected in the Warrenville, Crest Hill, and Countryside branches. Boxes were placed in the lobbies so members could also make donations to provide kids in the community with holiday gifts. In a similar vein, the New Lenox branch raised $500 for the New Lenox Mustang’s football team’s Toys for Tots Fundraiser event that was held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, showing their dedication both to children in need and their local schools.
“Our members and employees were incredibly generous in donating new toys and games for children whose families needed some extra support around the holidays,” said Sharon Richardson, Executive Assistant at NuMark. “I was able to drop donations off at the DuPage County collection location and seeing the facility in action, the happy faces of volunteers, and thousands of toys waiting to be delivered was incredible! Knowing that NuMark was able to be a small part in bringing joy to so many local children was truly heartwarming.”
In addition to the branches that supported Toys for Tots, the Earlville and Paw Paw branches had a Helping Hands Tree and Angel Tree in their lobbies, respectively. Similar to the branches collecting Toys for Tots donations, members also had the opportunity to participate in these programs. For Earlville’s Helping Hands Tree, members and NuMark employees could choose a child in need, who were each assigned two envelopes to provide a clothing item and a toy they wanted.
The Angel Tree program was organized by a local community member but displayed in the Paw Paw branch’s lobby. The tree’s covered with envelopes for community members in need, with one list for a needed item (clothing, household items, etc.) and one want (toys, makeup, etc.). Any community member was welcome to pick an envelope to shop for someone and drop the items and envelope back to the branch, where the organizer took them away to wrap and deliver.
“Our Earlville location has hosted the Helping Hands Tree for several years, and this was our first year hosting the Angel Tree in Paw Paw,” said Rachel Schubbe, Regional Manager of NuMark’s western branches. “We’ve loved being part of this Christmas tradition in both communities and being able to help spread the holiday magic and cheer. We are excited to make the Angel Tree in Paw Paw an annual holiday tradition just like the Helping Hands Tree has become one.”
One additional piece of outreach that was part of NuMark’s efforts, was the Women in Leadership (WIL) group’s participation in the Adopt-A-Family program put on by the Crisis Center of South Suburbia. For the Adopt-A-Family program, the group divided into teams, and each team selected a family in need to buy gifts for. Members of the WIL group had the option to either contribute financially with donations, or by volunteering their time to shop and wrap gifts.
“Our group selected the South Suburban Adopt-a-Family program as a meaningful way to give back to our community while also coming together and bonding as a team,” said Naomi Martinez, who was the Women in Leadership chairperson for 2024. “This event was designed to be inclusive, allowing anyone who wanted to participate to do so. Ultimately, it strengthened our bond as a team while exemplifying the core value of credit unions—people helping people.”
As a credit union, NuMark works hard every day of the year to uphold the mentality of “people helping people” that the credit union movement was built on. Whether it’s providing free workshops to educate children and adults on making the right financial decisions for their future goals, raising money for organizations like the Northern Illinois Food Bank, or donating their time to buy gifts or pack meals for community members in need.
NuMark thrives on supporting and uplifting the surrounding communities in any way possible, which includes providing its members with the knowledge and support necessary to make the right financial choices for them and their loved ones.
