NuMark Raises $3,000 for Wreaths Across America

NuMark Credit Union raised more than $3,000 recently and sponsored 315 wreaths placed at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood to support the Wreaths Across America project. Wreaths Across America project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring our nation’s heroes for their service.

NuMark’s volunteer board of directors are all veterans. “When it comes to anything involving veterans it really strikes home with us,” said Wally Chlipala, volunteer board of director. “Wreaths Across America is about remembering our fallen veterans and to honor all our veterans who have served.”

The credit union raised money through a combination of efforts. Staff paid to wear jeans on designated days. The credit union sold American Flags during Memorial Day and Independence Day holidays. Credit union members made donations and NuMark matched certain contributions. In total, more than 18,000 wreaths were placed at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Chlipala and other board members participated in the wreath laying ceremony on Saturday, December 16th.

“While the wreaths were being placed I noticed many families who would gather around a specific marker taking time to honor the veteran who was laid to rest at that site,” said Chlipala. “Remember, honor and teach is the message of the Wreaths Across America program and I witnessed an abundance of that on Saturday.”

For over 20 years wreaths have honored veterans in each branch of the military in over 1,100 participating locations in all 50 states and 24 national veteran cemeteries on foreign soil. Over 100,000 wreaths have been donated and more than 65,000 volunteers have participated in the project.

“Our deepest thanks and appreciation to all our veterans. Our freedom isn’t free and it’s the sacrifice of some who make it possible for all,” said Ann Dubie, NuMark Credit Union President and CEO. “We want to thank all the NuMark Credit Union members and staff who contributed to the Wreaths Across America project.” To learn more about the Wreaths Across America project, visit them online at
