Help Protect Seniors from Financial Scams
NuMark Credit Union will host a free seminar on Senior Financial Scams that will be held Thursday, June 21 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the New Lenox Park District located at 701 W. Haven Avenue in New Lenox.
Attendees will become aware of common scams and exploitation, recognize signs of financial exploitation, understand long-term effects, and identify typical perpetrators, and how to prevent becoming a victim and where to go for help.
Out-of-pocket costs associated with senior financial scams and exploitation are estimated at $2.6 billion a year. That number is a conservative figure since many cases go unreported due to fear and embarrassment of telling loved ones.
As the net worth of seniors increase, so does the likelihood they will be targeted by con artists trying to strip them of their life savings. Senior scams are on the rise, but proper prevention and education can change that trend. In order to protect yourself and your loved ones, take time to find out more about the most popular scams and learn how to protect yourself and loved ones from financial loss.
“There are so many scams out there and people become victims because they just don’t know about them,” says Linda Krakora, Training & Development Manager. “This seminar is great for becoming aware of the different schemes and protecting your family’s assets.”
This seminar is free and all are welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring their friends and family. Seating is limited. Reserve your seat below.
