April has officially arrived, the weather is warming up, and here at NuMark we’re excited to be participating again in Credit Union Youth Month (CUYM).
Originally starting as a week-long celebration in 2002, CUYM was created to encourage families with children to start teaching them about money and healthy financial habits. Credit unions believe that the most important financial tool you can have is knowledge, that’s why we’re proud to take part in this celebration every year in conjunction with Financial Literacy Month.
Teaching your children about the importance of healthy financial habits, like budgeting and the difference between needs vs. wants is a vital part of setting them up for future success. By starting to teach your children about finances at a young age, you’ll be preparing them for their transition into adulthood by giving them the confidence that they’ll be able to manage their finances, or that they’ll know where to turn to for financial help if they find themselves in a bind.
For 2025, the theme for CUYM is “A Sea of Savings,” emphasizing the importance of teaching your children the value of saving. It can also be worth looking into opening a youth account for them so you can show them the value of saving their money. It could even be a good time to look into youth account options to give them a jump start on their savings.
